Wriggle & Rhyme will be back on Monday 3 February 2015!  We can use the courtyard!

It was lovely to meet new babies – and their parents of course – this morning.  We were practicing activities for balance with lots of spinning and being upside-down.

Another fun session with lots of babies and toddlers on a beautiful sunny Monday morning.  This morning we talked about the Eyes, the Environment and  Massage and Touch.   A fun song to practice at home: Mahunga, pakihiwi, puku, hope, waewae (Head, shoulders…..) – a great way to learn body parts!

Harris had fun playing peek-a-boo through the book shelves after the session.

It was lovely to see so many parents and children at the Tummy Time session this morning.  Remember to try the activities at home too – have fun – play with your child…

Wriggle & Rhyme stars again this morning – Monday 5 May 2014.

Free Wriggle and Rhyme, Active Movement for Early Learning at Mangere Bridge  Library on Mondays.  Sessions start at 9:30 and run for approximately 30 minutes.

Please note: this programme is only available during the school term time.

Active Movement is a Sport and Recreation NZ SPARC initiative which aims to provide positive movement experiences to stimulate development of both the brain and body. Each session will be based on the Active Movement set of 14 activity guides using a range of music and movement.

Libraries are working with their Council and Regional Sports Trust to provide Wriggle and Rhyme sessions across the greater Auckland region with the focus mainly for babies from birth to two years.

Movement is a child’s first language, so it is important to provide babies with whole body movements’ right from birth. Parents and caregivers are invited to take part in these free weekly sessions at their local library, where they can also learn skills to put into practice at home.

While the activities are generally for babies, older pre-schoolers are also welcome to attend Wriggle and Rhyme sessions, and will benefit too.

50 community libraries are taking part in the Wriggle and Rhyme programme across the greater Auckland region.
